I'd wait, but I'm too tired to play pretend.

Meat is Murder & Moz is King
Saturday May 5 @ 12:07pmI wish I could take credit for this photo. I wish I had been that close to the stage when I saw the one & only Morrissey play an amazing show in San Diego last Tuesday, on his birthday.

This pic was actually taken last night at the Bakersfield show by the lovely Melisser Elliott. Quite honestly, I had half a mind to buy last minute tickets & make the 4 hour drive just to see this man again. I’ve been a Smiths/Morrissey mega-fan for well over 20 years. In the last few years my fandom has turned into full-fledged MOZMANIA.
My reasons for loving him are many & one thing that has keep me so connected to him, besides my love of his music, is his ardent stance on animal rights, summed up in this quote:
Please don’t kill anything. These are pathetically basic words but get through your life without killing things & killing animals & dragging animals down, making them pay for your pleasures—they’re mostly trivial pleasures as well—it’s not anything that anybody really needs. We were all raised with that concept that animals are there to be used, but they’re not. It’s just the dreadful industries that do it.
It’s quite amazing that The Smiths wrote & released Meat is Murder in 1985, & it is still so relevant today, if not more so now than ever, with the rise of animal agribusiness & factory farming. He often still performs the song at his solo shows, while sometimes showing a very graphic PETA video. See him sing it here, graphic vid not included. While it seems to be met with mixed reactions from the crowd, & I always cringe when I know it’s coming since that song makes me cry, I appreciate that he continues to spread the awareness to his vast audience of fans. While not all Moz lovers are herbivores, my hope is that a handful of his canivrous fans will walk away from his show with a more compassionate perspective towards animals & their suffering - for our plates, wardrobes, cosmetics & entertainment.
The mood of his show often darkens a bit after Meat is Murder, but quickly lightens up when he does this…

And all is right in my world. 53 & he still makes me swoon. I am 13 years old again.

Saturday May 5 @ 11:59amPolice in Indonesia, after refusing a permit for Lady Gaga to perform in Jakarta, said Friday they were considering an offer from her local promoters to tone down the pop superstar’s racy show. But while the promoters indicated a deal was being worked on for the June 3 concert, the US singer’s management has vowed no compromise to appease religious conservatives.
I know this is scary and all that, but I can’t help but think to myself, “You did it, bitch,” because it takes someone who is truly doing something revolutionary to piss people off this much. These people dislike her simply because she preaches that it’s okay to be gay. These people understand that with someone like Gaga preaching equality, change can happen, and they’re scared shitless because their idiotic beliefs are being shat upon because the world is beginning to change and move towards a more accepting culture. This is what cultural impact looks like, people. Call up your faves and have them take notes.
